A while ago I wrote a post on shirtdresses and how every vintage gal needs to have at least one or two. Well, today I found a wonderful web site called Clothesline: The Online Journal of Costume and Dress that talks about the history of the shirtdress, or the shirtwaist dress as the author calls it.
Incredibly detailed, with pictures as the one seen in this posting, the web article traces the history of the frock from the 1900s and on. I especially like the section on the "New Look" waistline (referred to lovingly as the gasp waistline) and what was used to achieve it. If you like vintage fashion, get on over there and read, read, read!
