Celebration Giveaway! (closed)

I am done with this semester of Grad school- whew! This was a hard one as I was taking my classes, working, had to finish an incomplete paper AND am planning for my rockin'wedding. When did I breathe? When I slept- which wasn't often in the last 2 weeks, I'll tell ya.

To celebrate the awesome feeling of no homework- I am having a giveaway of one custom hairflower in the winner's choice of colors (you can pick up to 3 colors)!

To enter you must:
Visit the hairflower section in my Tart Deco etsy shop and leave a comment by Monday May 25th (Memorial Day) 10 pm central time letting me know which hairflower is your favorite and what you would wear it with. Please make sure to leave your email in the comment so I can contact you if you win. Winner will be chosen by random.org.

The giveaway is open to U.S. residents only due to the high cost of postage, however international readers can enter if they are willing to pay for shipping. Thanks!

Alteration of Patterns

Have you heard of the website Chestofbooks.com? If not, you are in for a real treat! this site is PACKED FULL of books in the public domain on various subjects. Of course, my favorites are the ones on sewing and domestics. I have found many historical tips and tricks to fix vintage clothing or use similar techniques when I am sewing to make my reproduction clothing just that much more fun.

Today I link you to a book with a chapter on how to alter patterns. As you can see by the picture, it is similar to another link I posted about resizing vintage patterns, but I actually found this tutorial easier to follow. Perhaps because it is written for beginning sewers.

Hey brides who sew- search using the words "alteration, "alter"or "modify" (or just browse the sewing books)and see what tidbits you come up with on how to use vintage techniques to alter a dress you bought.

Dressing Gown Glamour

Picture my hair all dolled up in victory rolls, make-up perfectly applied in a vintage style, my wedding corset expertly laced, there's a hint of Chanel no. 5 wafting through the air, and there I am running around in crocs, sweat pants and a t-shirt over my corset! Uh..... NO.

One of the first things I did was start looking for a vintage dressing gown to wear as I readied myself for my big day. Yes, I know I am on a budget and this is not a necessary item, but with some of the sacrifices I did make, I think I am allowed one or two "luxury" items. I did find a gorgeous quilted 40s gown for $75 that has to be made slightly bigger in the front, but I can't wait to use it. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of it right now, but when I get some I will post.

How does one procure a lovely dressing gown for herself? Feast your eyes on these Etsy lovelies:
