Cupcakes. As I wrote in an earlier post, we decided to go with cupcakes for various reasons. To save money I asked my mother and a friend of hers to make them as they both have taken a class or two on it, plus my mother made a friend's cake a while back and it turned out to be wonderful. The plan was to make them the week prior and freeze them until the night before the wedding when they would be thawed, and be frosted the day of. Easy peasy morning breezy, right?
On a positive note, I have finally figured out how to display 200 cupcakes for almost next to nothing. I have 4 vintage T.V. trays I bought at a garage sale last summer and I had asked a friend if he thought he could make a frame for the tray tops to put the cupcakes on without damaging the tray tops so we can use them again. Yesterday he had mentioned that rubber cement would probably not take off the finish and we had discussed making a platform to glue them to. I was at Michael's Craft Store looking for something else (which is exciting and I will be posting about soon) and I saw the pillar sets that they use for cakes and realized that they will fit nicely on the lip underneath the tray! I bought 4 sets of them (2 in a shorter height and 2 in a taller height for variety) and we will be testing our rubber cement theory in the next few days. If it works, we will be able to fit about 25 cupcakes on the trays and a bunch underneath them. Total cost- $5 for trays, $16 for pillar sets and $2 for rubber cement.
